JEFFERSON, N.Y. – A 35-year-old man faces several charges after the Schoharie County Sheriff's Office says he assaulted a woman and dog with a sword on Friday.
According to authorities, Mark Dallas, 35, struck the woman multiple times with a sword causing serious physical injury. He also used the sword to strike and injure a dog at the home.
The female victim was treated by Schoharie County EMS at the scene and transported to Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown via the Jefferson Rescue Squad. The dog was transported by the Richmondville Dog Control Officer to an emergency vet clinic for treatment of serious wounds.
Both victims are expected to recover from their injuries.
Dallas was arrested on a warrant issued out of the Town of Jefferson and charged with Assault, Menacing, Reckless Endangerment, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, and Aggravated Cruelty to Animals.
He has been remanded to the Schoharie County Jail without bail. Mr. Dallas is scheduled to appear in the Town of Jefferson Court on November 15, 2013 at 3:00 p.m.
