SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - A Saratoga Springs man was arrested by police after coming at officers with a cleaver when they responded to his home.

Police say around 11 p.m. Saturday, police were called to look for a male, identified as 24-year-old Alex Mintzer, who had been involved in a domestic complaint. Some officers had previous contacts with him, and thus responded to his home on Madison Street.

Upon arrival at the home, police say Mintzer was not cooperative and suddenly retreated to the back of the home. When he reappeared, he was waving a large cleaver above his head in a threatening way and screaming at officers to get out of his house.

Officers responded and used verbal commands. A brief struggle ensued and Mintzer was taken into custody, during such time a taser was deployed.

He has been charged with menacing a police officer, reckless endangerment, criminal possession of a weapon and unlawful imprisonment, all felonies, resisting arrest, assault and menacing, all misdemeanors, and remanded to the Saratoga County Jail.
