MECHANICVILLE, N.Y. - People driving by Best Avenue in Mechanicville will read the street sign and be reminded of one local hero and his ultimate sacrifice.
Family, friends, and members of the American Legion Post 1644 looked on Monday as a new sign was revealed in honor of Lance Corporal Anthony Denier who was killed in the line of duty last December. Now, when people drive by the blue sign, his family hopes they'll be reminded of his sacrifice.
This Veterans Day, Best Avenue in Mechanicville has been dedicated to the fallen soldier who lived in the area his whole life.
Officials say the 26-year-old Marine was on foot patrol in Afghanistan when he was shot down by enemy fire. He had been serving overseas for just one month at the time of his death.
Denier's mother, Mary Morgan, says she is proud of her son and thankful that Mechanicville has made Denier apart of their community.
"This was his town, this is where he grew up and this is his town now. This is his street and I look at it and I'm honored," Morgan said.
The dedication was made possible through the town and Post 1644, which Denier was a member of.
