PITTSFIELD, Mass. – A Pittsfield city councilor has pleaded
not guilty to accessory and drug conspiracy charges.
Paul Capitanio, 57, is accused of buying oxycodone pills from a dealer in August 2013 when he gave him
information about an upcoming raid.
According to police, the dealer was caught on tape
during a wiretap investigation telling a major dealer that a "councilman friend"
tipped him off about the upcoming drug raid.
The councilman pleaded not guilty to his charges and bail is
set at $500. A pretrial hearing has been scheduled for January 16, 2014.
Capitanio was previously indicted in October by a grand jury
for allegedly buying the illegal
prescription painkillers and tipping off the dealer.
Capitanio has been a
councilor since 2009.
