ALBANY, N.Y. – Famous kidnapping survivor, Elizabeth Smart, will be in Albany on Friday.
Smart will be speaking at the Wolferts Roost County Club at a "Women Against Multiple Sclerosis" event at noon. Smart, who released her book "My Story" on October 8th, will address a sell-out crowd during the emotional and inspiring luncheon aimed at empowering women in the Capital Region.
Smart was only 14-years-old when she was abducted at knifepoint from her bedroom in Utah in 2002. Her captors gained control of her by threatening to kill her and her family if she tried to escape. She was found nine months later walking in another part of the state with her two captors, who were arrested and sentenced for the crime.
Smart started the "Elizabeth Smart Foundation" to help promote change related to child abduction, recovery programs and national legislation.
