ALBANY, N.Y. – An Albany County woman who pleaded guilty to stabbing her own son to death was sentenced to 20 years in state prison on Friday.
The Albany County District Attorney says 53-year-old Tracey Zetzsche will spend the next 20 years for repeatedly stabbing her son, 22-year-old Gabriel Philby-Zetzsche, with a knife inside their apartment on Route 143 in Westerlo in July 2012.
Zetzsche pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter in September for the crime which caused the death of her son. Investigators say Gabriel, who had cerebral palsy, was also hit in the head with a hammer by his mother.
Officials with the Albany County Sheriff's Office say Gabriel had been dead for at least three days before his body was found by a family member. They said Zetzsche continued to live in the apartment during that time.
A search warrant was executed at the apartment which revealed there was an attempt to clean the crime scene before officers arrived. However, blood soaked clothes and bedding were found in the trash with the alleged murder weapons.
