Staying safe on Halloween

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Halloween is a night of fun for kids and parents, but it can also be a night full of mischief, and many area police departments are stepping up patrols to keep everyone safe.

Police departments in Schenectady, Albany, Troy and Pittsfield all say they will step up patrols Thursday night to keep kids safe and to prevent mischief from happening.

A lot of local towns will have official trick-or-treat hours.

There are also apps for the iPhone and Android that can help keep your kids safer this Halloween.

Life 360 is a free app when everyone in the family downloads it, it will show you where everyone is at any point in time.

The FBI Child ID app is also free and allows parents to create digital profiles for children such as their height and weight and lets you save photos so you have this all on hand in case a child goes missing.
