RENSSELAER, N.Y. – The City of Rensselaer has a new Emergency Alert System which will alert residents of emergency situations and give them critical information.
BroadBlast Inc., will provide the integrated mass communication system for the city.
A test of the system will be conducted on Friday, November 1, 2013. Residents in the city will hear an automated messaged which will alert them it is only a test.
Residents who have signed up to receive email and text messages alerts will also be sent a test alert on Friday.
The new system is expected to save the city costs by broadcasting routine information such as trash pick-up reminders, annual water reports, and boil water notices to a resident's email.
All city residents are encouraged to register their cell phone numbers and email addresses to be contacted by going to the City of Rensselaer's website at www.Rensselaerny.gov and fill out the self-registration page with their information.
