Local man pleads guilty to cashing counterfeit checks

ALBANY, N.Y. – A 36-year-old man pleaded guilty in court on Monday to charges stating he cashed counterfeit checks.

Rakeem Carter, 36, pleaded guilty to one felony Count of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument in the Second Degree in Albany County Court.

Police say that on August 22, Carter cashed two counterfeit checks, one in the amount of $3,842.09 and one in the amount of $2,952.66. The defendant cashed the checks at NBT Bank in the Town of Colonie and Citizens Bank in the Town of Guilderland.

He faces 1 to 3 years in State Prison when sentenced on November 26. Carter must also pay restitution to each bank.
