CANAAN, N.Y. – A tractor-trailer driver from Canada was ticketed after bags of clothes from his truck littered almost a 10-mile stretch of the Berkshire Spur early Sunday morning, state police said.

The clean-up effort required the eastbound right lane of the spur to be closed for a period while Thurway maintenance crews cleaned up the mess.

According to Troop T, calls for the incident first came in just after midnight for the debris littering the road.

Troopers tell NEWS10 ABC that a report filed noted the clothes, bags, and other debris dotted the highway for almost 10-miles, from mile marker 7.2 to 16.7; several miles before the Massachusetts border.

Maintenance workers for the Thruway were eventually called in to pick up the items, resulting in them closing down the right lane.

State police say the lanes were cleared and back open by five o'clock Sunday morning.

A sergeant with the Albany barracks of Troop T says the driver, a 65-year old from Prince Edward Island, was eventually ticketed for disposing of refuge on the highway.
