Capital Region participates in National Take Back Day

ALBANY, N.Y. – Saturday is National Take Back Day, an effort to get illegally prescription drugs out of the hands of drug abusers.

United States Attorney Richard Hartunion is urging members of every community throughout the country to take a step to stop drug abuse among young people.

There will be a number of designated locations throughout and around the Capital Region that will "take back" potentially dangerous controlled substances from people's homes.  All locations will be open from 10 am – 2pm

Albany County will host National Take Back Day at the following locations:

  • Albany Police Department South Station – 126 Arch Street, Albany
  • Watervliet Police Department – 2 – 15th Street, Watervliet
  • Albany PD at CVS Pharmacy – 885 Central Avenue, Albany
  • Albany County Sheriff – 58 Verda Avenue, Clarksville
  • Coeyman's Police Department – 18 Russell Avenue, Ravena
  • Colonie Police Department - at 312 Wolf Road in Latham
  • Crossgates Mall ‘Food Court' parking lot – 1 Corssgates Road, Albany
  • Albany PD at Albany College of Pharmacy – 106 New Scotland Avenue, Albany
  • Bethlehem Police Department at West Sand Lake Fire Department – 249 Elm Avenue, Delmar

Fulton County will host National Take Back Day at the following locations:

  • Johnstown PD – 41 East Main Street, Johnstown
  • Gloversville PD – 3 Frontage Road, Gloversville

Montgomery County will host National Take Back Day at the following locations:

  • Amsterdam PD Public Safety Complex – Guy Park Avenue Extenstion, Amsterdam
  • Montgomery County Sheriff's Office – 200 Clark Drive, Fultonville
  • Canajoharie Police Department – 75 Erie Boulevard, Canajoharie
  • St. Johnsville Police Department – 16 Washington Street, St. Johnsville
  • Fort Plain Police Department – 168 Canal Street, Fort Plain

Rensselaer County will host National Take Back Day at the following locations:

  • Rensselaer County Sheriff's Department – West Sand Lake Fire House, 3697 Route 43, West Sand Lake
  • East Greenbush Police Department – 225 Columbia Turnpike, Rensselaer
  • Hoosick Falls Police Department – 29 Main Street, Hoosick Falls
  • Schodack Police Department - 1797 Columbia Turnpike, Castleton
  • Troy Police Department – 55 State Street, Troy

Saratoga County will host National Take Back Day at the following locations:

  • Mechanicville Police Department at CVS Pharmacy Parking Lot – 12 South Central Avenue, Mechanicville
  • Saratoga Springs Police Department – 5 Lake Avenue, Saratoga Springs
  • Ballston Spa Police Department – 30 Bath Street, Ballston Spa
  • NYS Police at NYS Police Public Safety Building – 5 Municipal Plaza State Route 146, Clifton Park

Schenectady County will host National Take Back Day at the following locations:

  • Schenectady Police Department – 531 Liberty Street, Schenectady
  • Schenectady County Sheriff's Office – 5853 Western Turnpike, Duanesburg
  • Glenville Municipal Center – 18 Glenride Road, Glenville
  • Scotia Police Department – 4 North Ten Broeck Street, Schenectady
  • Rotterdam Police Department – 101 Princetown Road, Schenectady
  • Niskayuna Police Department at Town Hall – 1 Niskayuna Circle, Niskayuna

Warren County will host National Take Back Day at the following locations:

  • Warren County Sheriff's Office – 1400 State Route 9, Queensbury
  • NYS Police – 398 Aviation Road, Queensbury

Washington County will host National Take Back Day at the following locations:

  • Washington County Sheriff's Office at County Department of Health Annex – 397 Broadway, Fort Edward
  • Whitehll Police Department – 57 Skenesborough Drive, Whitehall

Berkshire County in Massachusetts will host National Take Back Day at the following locations:

  • Adams Police Department – 4 School Street, Adams
  • West Stockbridfe Police Department – 21 State Line Road, West Stockbridge
  • Sheffield PD Permanent Kiosk – 10 Main Street, Sheffield
  • Stockbridge PD – 50 Main Street, Stockbridge
  • Lenox PD at Town Hall – 6 Walker Street, Lenox
  • Great Barrington PD – 465 Main Street, Great Barrington
  • Pittsfield PD at CHP Neighborhood Health Center – 510 North Street, Pittsfield
  • Dalton PD at Community Recreation Center – 400 Main Street, Dalton
  • Lee PD at Amubulence Service – 177 Main Street, Lee
  • Williamstown Police at Town Hall – 31 North Street, Williamstown

Bennington County in Vermont will host National Take Back Day at the following locations:

  • Bennington County Sheriff's Department – 212 Lincoln Street, Bennington

 

Expired, unwanted and unused prescription drugs will be accepted at these locations.  However, there are some restrictions. Intra-venous solutions, injectables and syringes will not be accepted due to potential hazard posed by blood-borne pathogens. Hazardous waste such as mercury (thermometers), illicit substances such as marijuana or methamphetamines will also not be accepted.
