ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - The New York Department of Environmental Conservation is issuing a new round of deer permits.
DEC says it's sending approximately 35,000 deer management permits to hunters who didn't get them during the initial application period earlier this fall.
The permits allow hunters to harvest antlerless deer and are issued for specific wildlife management units to control deer populations.
This year, DEC received fewer permit applications than projected in many areas.
DEC completed the selection last week and has begun mailing permits to selected applicants. Leftover permits also will be available in several wildlife management units beginning Nov. 1.
