Update: Fire crews return to put hots pots out at barn as friends show support to owner

SCHODACK, N.Y. – The Castleton Fire Department is back at the scene of a barn fire on Saturday to knock down remaining hot spots.

The fire at a dairy barn located at 1803 Brookview Avenue broke out Friday around 12:30 p.m.  At least 100 firefighters responded to the blaze.

Milking cows on the farm were uninjured because they were grazing at the time of the fire.  However, 20 heifers, female cows younger than 3 years old that have not had a baby, were killed.

The owners spoke to NEWS10 ABC on Saturday and said that some of the milking are currently on a neighbors farm as cleanup begins.

A number of friends and neighbors showed support on Saturday to help the owner of the farm, Schodack Town Justice Paul Peter.

There is no word on what caused the fire.
