NISKAYUNA, N.Y. – The Niskayuna town supervisor says people in the town may still be experiencing discolored water on Thursday after a water main break occurred on Mohawk Road Wednesday.
Water in parts of the system may become slightly discolored due to the increased volume of water flowing through the pipes at higher than normal velocities. Officials say the water should only appear discolored when it is first turned on and then clear after a few seconds.
This slightly discolored water is still safe to drink, according to town officials. However, clothes washing is not recommended since the discoloration of the water (primarily from iron) can cause staining.
The water should be back to normal in a day or two.
The break was located at Rosendale at Mohawk.
