AG: NY man ran prostitution ring from 2 jails

Posted:

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a Syracuse man tried to run his prostitution ring even while he was incarcerated in two upstate New York jails.

Attorney General Eric Schneiderman says the charges against 30-year-old Eric Oliver include sex trafficking, promoting prostitution and statutory rape. Schneiderman says Oliver's prostitution ring victimized girls as young as 15 years old.

Officials say Oliver used physical force and drugs such as cocaine and heroin to compel prostitutes to continue working. Authorities say one of his prostitutes was a 15-year-old Syracuse girl he's accused of beating and raping.

Schneiderman says Oliver used telephones in jails in Tompkins and Jefferson counties to give instructions to two women running his prostitution operation while he was incarcerated.

Oliver is being held in the Onondaga County jail. It couldn't be determined if he has a lawyer.
