WILMINGTON, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a state forest ranger in the Adirondacks didn't commit any crimes when he fatally shot two dogs that were attacking his rabbits, then told the canines' owners that he hadn't seen their pets.
The Adirondack Daily Enterprise reports that state police investigated the matter last month after learning that Chris Kostoss had killed the two dogs in May as they attacked his rabbits in their cage on his property in Wilmington.
Kostoss told the newspaper he was within his rights under state law to kill the dogs because they were attacking his animals on his property. He says he buried the dogs on his property and decided not to tell the owners about what had happened.
State environmental conservation officials they're reviewing the matter.
