GUILDERLAND, N.Y. – A cab driver helped police nab a man who allegedly burglarized a home.
On Thursday, around 6:30 p.m. police received a phone call from a cab driver. The driver told authorities that he had picked up a man in Albany then drove him to a house on Wormer Road in Guilderland, where the burglary allegedly took place.
The suspect, identified as 50-year-old Frank Markus of Delmar, entered the house and returned to the bad with a jar of change, according to police. The cab driver then took Markus to the Price Chopper in the Hamilton Square Mall where he cashed in the change.
While Markus was in the grocery store, the driver called Guilderland Police who then responded to the store.
The man was detained and was arrested after an investigation. He was charged with Burglary in the 2nd degree. He was arraigned and sent to Albany County Correctional Facility.
According to authorities, the Wormer Road homeowner is a 90-year-old who was home at the time of the burglary. The victim confronted Markus while he was in the home but that is when the man left and returned to the cab.
There were no injuries as a result of the burglary.
