SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Schenectady Police are currently investigating a stabbing that occurred in the Mont Pleasant neighborhood early Friday morning.

Lt. Mark McCracken says the stabbing took place around 4:30 a.m. near the intersection of Orchard Street and Third Avenue.  The victim has been identified as 33-year-old Louis Smith of Albany.

Smith told police that he approached a female who he thought was a friend of his.  The female was not the person he was looking for and they ended up in an argument.  During the argument, the suspect showed a knife and stabbed Smith several times in the arm and torso.

Smith then walked to 585 Broadway and was able to flag down a motorist.  He was treated at the scene and was brought to Albany Medical Center where he is in stable condition.

The victim described the suspect as wearing a hoodie.  There have been no arrests.
