ALBANY, N.Y. – A Watervliet man pleaded
guilty to manslaughter in Albany County Supreme Court on Tuesday in connection
to the stabbing death of his roommate in
Brandon Burritt, 30, of Watervliet, pleaded
guilty to one Count of felony Manslaughter in the First-Degree.
A grand jury previously returned an indictment alleging that
in the afternoon hours of April 21, 2013 at a residence on Fifth Avenue in the
City of Watervliet, Burritt did intentionally cause the death of a victim by
means of repeatedly stabbing him with a knife.
Watervliet police responded to the call and discovered Burritt
at the bottom landing of the 2nd floor apartment,
suffering from obvious multiple stab and slash wounds to his upper torso and
neck area. He indicated that there was a second subject upstairs in the
apartment. Further investigation into the apartment revealed David D.
Hochsprung, 51, unresponsive on the couch in the apartment. He had also
incurred multiple wounds on his head, neck and torso area. WFD EMS
responded, but Hochsprung had succumbed to his injuries.
Police say Burritt staged the crime scene and injured
himself with self-inflicted stab wounds to his stomach area and neck in an
attempt to cover up the crime before calling 911 for assistance.
