BENNINGTON, Vt. - A driver admitted he was doing drugs prior to crashing his vehicle into a house on Union Street in Bennington early Tuesday morning.

The Bennington Police Department says 18-year-old Marcien Roy of Pownal was driving south on Union Street from Main Street around 1:15 a.m. Tuesday when he failed to stop at the stop sign at a sharp curve. Police say he failed to negotiate the curve and due to his speed drove off the road, traveled over the curb and crashed the GMC Yukon into the front porch of 259 Union Street. Police say the SUV was airborne as it crashed into the home.

According to police, Roy admitted he was smoking marijuana and eating mushrooms prior to the crash and was arrested for driving while impaired.

Roy received minor injuries in the crash.

The Bennington Fire Department was on scene as a fire prevention measure as well as ensuring building safety. The home was deemed unfit for occupancy.
