Florida fugitive caught in NY thanks to concerned citizen

SUMMIT, N.Y. – New York State Police say they arrested a man in Schoharie who is a Fugitive from Justice from the State of Florida.

David Jackson, 57, has been wanted for DUI Manslaughter charges from a fatal motorcycle accident that happened in November 2011 in Lakeland, Florida.  Police say Jackson is from Summit, New York.

According to authorities, a concerned citizen contacted police because they spotted Jackson in a Richmondville gas station and knew about the pending case in Florida.  A number of police departments were alerted about Jackson.

While on patrol, one trooper initiated a traffic stop on Jackson while on Lange Road in Summit.

Upon investigation, Jackson was found in possession of three long guns in his residence and a small amount of marijuana.  He has been legally prohibited from possessing the weapons due to a prior conviction.

Jackson was charged with being a Fugitive from Justice, Criminal Possession of a Weapon and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana.

He has been arraigned and was sent to Schoharie County Jail without bail.  A court date is pending.
