TROY, N.Y. – There was a stabbing in Troy early Saturday morning that left one man seriously injured, according to police.
Troy Police say the responded to a call about a disturbance from 81 Jay Street around 12:15a.m. Saturday.
As officers arrived they found Jerome Rakestraw, 45, with a serious stab wound to the upper torso. Authorities say the man is from Albany. EMS personnel aided Rakestraw at the scene and transported him to Albany Medical Center because they deemed the injury a serious wound.
While on the scene, witnesses identified the attacker. Police arrested Bryan Wright, 23, at the scene without incident. The men were at a birthday party together in the Jay Street apartment when the attack happened. A knife was used as a weapon and it has been recovered.
Wright, who is from Cohoes, has been charged with Assault in the First Degree, Burglary in the First Degree and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree. He was arraigned on Saturday morning and sent to Rensselaer County Jail without bail.
The victim remains at Albany Medical Center, condition unknown, but is expected to survive.
