ALBANY, N.Y. -- For the fourth consecutive year, The College of Saint Rose has been named a "Military Friendly School" by Victory Media, publisher of publications for military personnel transitioning to civilian life.
The "2014 Military Friendly Schools" honors the top 20 percent of colleges, universities and trade schools that are doing the most to embrace America's military service members and veterans as students. Saint Rose is one of eight Capital Region institutions on the list of 1,877 nationwide that give priority to the recruitment of students with military experience.
According to Victory Media, these schools embrace America's military service members, veterans and spouses as students to ensure their success in the classroom and after they graduate.
Among the benefits that Saint Rose offers to service members and returning veterans:
• Saint Rose participates voluntarily in the Yellow Ribbon Program of the Post 9/11 GI Bill for an unlimited number of students who qualify for the benefit. In contrast to other Capital Region institutions that limit participation and cap the dollar amount, Saint Rose provides full tuition coverage for as many veterans as are eligible and accepted to attend the College.
• Saint Rose has established a chapter of Student Veterans of America (http://www.studentveterans.org/ ), just the third college in the Capital District to do so.
• As a member of the Servicemembers Opportunity Colleges Consortium, Saint Rose works to accept military education and Joint Service Transcript recommendations for transfer credit to be applied toward a Saint Rose degree.
Its position on the Military Friendly Schools list enables Saint Rose to participate in Victory Media's virtual college fair on November 20, the first such event to pair members of the military community seeking education with student veterans and school representatives from pre-screened military friendly schools. The fair will allow active military, veterans and spouses to gain a first-hand perspective of campus life and engage one-on-one with admissions counselors.
"Veteran students constitute an integral part of our total student body, bringing a diversity of life experiences and educational backgrounds that enrich and strengthen the overall academic experience for all students," said Saint Rose Interim President Dr. Margaret Kirwin.
