TROY, N.Y. - Some people complain that parents don't go far enough when it comes to punishing their children's bad behavior.

But that is something 17-year-old Rodney Green, of Speigletown, doesn't have a problem with.

Rodney Green Sr. forced his son to wear a sign and stand along busy Hoosick Street in Troy for several hours on Monday. Wearing the sign was a punishment for Rodney after he was involved in a cell phone theft at school and was caught smoking pot.

Rodney's dad was there the whole time standing next to his son while dozens of people stopped to talk to Rodney. Their reaction appeared to be a mix between concern and applause for his father.

Rodney Green Sr. says he was doing this to make sure his son and his son's friends know that behavior is not acceptable.

When asked if this punishment was helping him, Rodney Green Jr. said, "Not really no. I don't see how this is going to help me, putting me out here."

The sign reads: "I am 17 yrs. old. I like to smoke pot, disrespect my parents, teacher, and school officials. I'm a senior in high school and I got suspended for being involved in a theft. I'm embarrassing my family but for the most part hurting myself!"
