Dog owner cited, dog seized after alleged attack

SCOTIA, N.Y. – Almost one week after an 80-year-old man was allegedly attacked by his neighbor's dog, police say the owner of the animal has been cited and the dog was seized.

Scotia Police say Camilla Griffin, 43, of Alexander Avenue, was cited on Wednesday afternoon for violating the Village of Scotia ordinance. Griffin's dog allegedly ran off her property and chased the victim, Cliff Semerad.

Neighbors say the mixed-breed attacked the man on September 21 when Semerad was returning a bucket to his Griffin's next-door home and the dog "seemed to come out of nowhere."

Semerad is still recovering from bites on his arm, hands, and face.

Police have confirmed previously that the same dog has been involved in at least two other attacks and they did occur on the dog owner's property.  Since it was on Griffin's property, it is a civil infraction, if it was off the property it would be criminal. The dog was taken, as a "dangerous dog hearing" is pending.

Griffin will appear in Village Court on September 30.
