ALBANY, N.Y. - An Albany man has been arrested for the ninth time in the past couple years by Albany Police for allegedly exposing himself to middle school students Tuesday.
Albany Police say 24-year-old Jayshawn Owens was arrested after staff from Myers Middle School notified police that at approximately 7:30 a.m., two female students were approached by him while walking to school in the area of Delaware Avenue and Morton Avenue.
They students told police that Owens then followed them for approximately one block and attempted to engage them in conversation. The students were able to get away from him and reported the incident to school officials.
Owen was arrested by police on Wednesday after an investigation. He's been charged with two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child and one count of Public Lewdness. He has been sent to the
Albany County Jail in lieu of $20,000 bail.
Police say Owens was also arrested earlier this month for allegedly trespassing and exposing himself in the backyard of a Jay Street home. Police say on September 15th, officers responded to the residence where he fled in a vehicle. The caller was able to give a description of Owens and the vehicle. The caller also stated she recognized Owens because he entered her yard in the past and began to masturbate. In this case he was charged with criminal trespass.
In July, he was also arrested twice for trespass.
On July 2nd, Owens was arrested for attempting to look into windows at the Danker Village Apartments of Lincoln Avenue. He was arrested after fleeing from officers and charged with Trespass and Resisting Arrest.
Then on July 9th, he was arrested following a call from a woman who was jogging in the area of Ryckman Avenue and Warren Street. The caller stated that as she was jogging, she observed Owens following behind her in an SUV for several blocks. Owens attempted to flee from responding officers before he was apprehended and charged with two counts of Criminal Trespass and Aggravated Unlicensed Operator.
Owens was also charged with Trespass as part of an earlier investigation at the Danker Village Apartments. On June 25th, Owens was observed looking into windows at the apartment complex. He was advised not to return to the property but did return on July 2nd.
In each of these times, he was arraigned in the Albany City Criminal Court and released.
Police say Owens had five additional arrests in 2012 for Stalking, Public Lewdness, and Criminal Trespass.
