FORT JOHNSON, N.Y. – One lucky Montgomery County woman says she was only making a routine gas trip to Stewart's when she won $1 million.
Julie Hemstreet, 64, of Fonda, bought the Cash Blowout ticket at the Stewart's Shops on Eat Main Street in Fort Johnson on September 13. A decision that made her the area's newest Lottery millionaire.
She told the NYS Lottery that she was paying for gas inside when the ticket "just happened to catch" her eye.
"I play scratch-off tickets because it's exciting," explained Hemstreet. "It took a little while to figure out what ‘jackpot' meant, but when I did I was in shock!"
Hemstreet opted to receive a one lump sum of $830,000 from the Lottery.
She is New York State's 106th Lottery millionaire in 2013.
