Erie Canal to reopen to allow boaters to pass

CANAJOHARIE, N.Y. (AP) - Boaters stranded on the Erie Canal because of emergency repairs at a Mohawk Valley lock will have a three-day opportunity next month to resume their voyages on the waterway.
The state Canal Corp. says the canal between Lock E-12 in Tribes Hill and E-14 in Canajoharie will reopen starting at 7 a.m. Oct. 4 and continuing until 8 p.m. Oct. 6.
That stretch of the canal has been shut down since last week for emergency repairs at Lock E-13 in Montgomery County. Canal officials say the construction company doing the repairs has scheduled the three-day break in the work.
The canal will close again Oct. 6 for final repairs that are expected to take several weeks.
Some boaters remain moored at the waterway's eastern terminus in Waterford, north of Albany.
