Ballston council members vote to ban heavy industrial projects

Posted:

BALLSTON, N.Y. -- Heavy industrial projects will be banned from the town of Ballston following a 4 to 1 vote by council members  -- the majority in favor of changing zoning regulations to keep heavy industry out.

The changes nix plans to build a one acre asphalt plant Dolemite in the Curtis Industrial Park.

Patti Southworth, the town's supervisor, says the council's decision could cost them in the long run.

"I believe they will follow through, take us to court and sue us," she said.

Residents worried about traffic and air quality sounded off, and the majority of the council sided with them.

NEWS10 ABC's Trishna Begam will have a full report Tuesday at 11.
