WATERVLIET, N.Y. -- There are new details on that huge fire at the Fenimore Trace Apartments last week -- investigators say they aren't able to determine a cause.
The fire ripped through two buildings, forcing 14 families from their homes. It started early Friday morning and was fully involved in a matter of minutes.
One man had to be told by firefighters not to drop his baby from a third floor window, as crews tried to get a ladder to him.
"The people that came out were coughing. They had a lot of smoke. They were very lucky," said Watervliet Fire Chief Scott Skinner. "They were hugging the firefighters. It was a very bad situation where people could've died here, and the guys all came together and did a really good job."
The fire was never considered suspicious.
