BROADALBIN, N.Y. - A baby giraffe is the newest resident of the Adirondack Animal Land zoo in Gloversville.

The female giraffe at the zoo gave birth to a healthy, six-foot-tall calf on Sunday. The baby was appropriately named "Autumn," due to being born on the first day of fall.

It was a beautiful sight for Adirondack animal land owner David Eglin.

"Of course she was born and it's just a phenomenal discovery to see that baby," he said.

He says the three-day-old giraffe was born around 10 a.m. Sunday after spending 14-months in her mom's tummy.  Within one hour of being born, Autumn was standing on her own; remarkable for such a young animal.

Eglin takes care of more than 500 animals, a tall task when it's cold most of the year.

"We got three or four months of beautiful weather, other than that were into winter and snow, and they don't take to that kind of weather," he said.

Eglin has a 4,000 square-foot barn, complete with cathedral ceiling and a ventilation system.

The Adirondack Animal Land is on Route 30, consisting of 80 acres of farmland.
