TOWNSHEND, Vt. – Vermont State Police say one man has been arrested after a minor car crash led to the suspect wielding a machete in a fight.
Police responded to two reports, one of which was about a fight involving five people around 5:00 p.m. on Route 30 near the Leland and Gray High School.
Troopers arrived to the scene and learned Tyler Smith, 24, was in a minor car crash and at the scene, he exited his vehiclewith an 18 inch machete. Authorities say that after the altercation, Smith fled the area but crashed his car again, into the sign at the High School. According to police, he was driving in an aggressive manner and crossed the northbound lane of oncoming traffic.
Smith allegedly fled again after the second crash. However, he stopped in front of the Townshend Town Office where Vermont State Police found Smith was intoxicated and took him into custody.
He now faces the charges of Driving Under the Influence, Leaving the scene of a crash, Negligent Operation and Attempted Aggravated Assault.
