UTICA, N.Y. -- Utica police confirm that remains found in the Mohawk River there earlier this month are those of Levon Wameling.

The Onodaga County Medical Examiner's office made the official identification Saturday.

Wameling was 9-months old when he was reported missing in early summer. The story made national headlines when police say the baby disappeared in late May, but that his father had waited nearly two weeks before telling authorities.

Police say his father told officers the baby vanished from the front porch of his home, when he left him alone briefly to look for some keys.

Acting on a lead earlier this month, police found a box in the river that contained the remains later identified as Levon Wameling.

No one has yet been charged in connection with Levon's death.

Late Saturday night, Utica Police posted a statement on their Facebook page that read, in part, "... we offer our sincere condolences to the family members of baby Levon Wameling. Our collective hearts are heavy with sympathy and sorrow. We are working diligently to bring you justice."
