NORTH GREENBUSH, N.Y. – The North Greenbush Police Department says a man has died from injuries he sustained from a head-on accident that happened Thursday.
North Greenbush Police say 64-year-old John Hover, of Poestenkill, died after being transported to Albany Medical Center after a serious accident on Route 43.
Hover is the father of 29-year-old Devin Hover, who died in a fire at the family's Poestenkill home on Sunday.
According to police, John Hover was operating his Ford pickup truck heading east on Route 43, in the "S" turns, around 1:50 p.m. when he crossed into the oncoming lane and struck a vehicle driven by 66-year-old Jean Eldred, of West Sand Lake. Both Hover and Eldred were trapped in their vehicles and had to be extricated by the Defreestville and Wynantskill Fire Departments.
Both drivers were taken to Albany Medical Center. Hover was listed in critical condition before he passed away on Thursday.
Eldred is still listed in serious condition.
Police Chief Robert Durivage says this is the second serious accident that's occurred in the "S" turns portion of Route 43 in the last 45 days. He says in both cases, the driver crossed into the on-coming lane causing the crash.
An investigation into the recent car crash is ongoing. Anyone with information regarding this accident is asked to call North Greenbush Police at 283-5323/
