GLENS FALLS, N.Y. – Thursday kicked off the four day event of the annual Adirondack Balloon Festival, a top rated event in the country by the American Bus Association for 2013.
The 41st Annual Event will feature elephant and hummingbird shapes during the festival, which will host 100 balloons.
More than 150,000 people are expected to attend the weekend-long event. QVC, the world's leading video and ecommerce retailer will cover this year's balloon festival.
Festivities began Thursday evening at Crandall Park with an opening ceremony, a launch of 20 balloons and a Glens Falls block party.
On Friday more than 80 balloons, including those with special shapes, will launch at 5p.m. at the Floyd Bennett Memorial Airport in Queensbury.
One Hundred balloons will take flight at 6:30a.m. on Saturday and the airport. Then they will launch again at 5p.m. The day will conclude with "Lighting Up the Night" featuring at least 20 balloons.
The annual festival will conclude on Sunday with the "Walter's Mass Ascension" of 100 balloons at the airport at 6:30a.m. And finally, 20 or more balloons will launch at Crandall Park at 5p.m.
This festival is a not-for-profit organization and is only run by volunteers.
