Accident on Route 43 sends two to hospital

NORTH GREENBUSH, N.Y. – An accident on Route 43 in North Greenbush has sent two to Albany Medical Center with serious injuries.

On Thursday at about 1:50 p.m., police say John Hover, 64, of Poestenkill was operating his 2002 Ford pickup truck heading east on Route 43 when he crossed into the oncoming lane striking a 2006 Toyota driven by jean Eldred, 66, of West Sand Lake.

Both drivers were trapped in their vehicles, and they were removed from the vehicles by the Defreestville and Wynantskill Fire Departments.

The victims were transported to Albany Medical Center where Hover remains in critical condition, and Eldred remains in serious condition.

"This is the second serious accident we've had in this portion of the S-turns of Route 43 in the last 45 days, and in both cases a motorist crossed into the oncoming lane causing the collision. Hover is also the father of Devin Hover who recently died in a house fire in Poestenkill on Sunday," said Chief Robert Durivage.

The investigation is ongoing at this time. Anyone with information regarding the accident is asked to call North Greenbush Police at 283-5323.
