BENNINGTON, Vt. – The spokesperson for the Berkshire County District Attorney's office says a man was arrested in Bennington Thursday afternoon as a fugitive from justice on a warrant issued out of Massachusetts on a probation violation.
When asked if this arrest was possibly connected to the North Adams homicide, he stated he did not know. When asked about the search for the homicide victim's car, he said "that is still an active and ongoing investigation."
Bennington Police confirmed Thursday they were at Main Street near Valentine Street in Bennington, but only said they were "on an assist for an investigation." Berkshire County Sheriff officers were also present at the scene.
"We have been asked to not say anything to the media because it is a fluid investigation," said Lt. Lloyd Dean.
Ellen Depaoli, 84, was found dead inside her Walker Street home Tuesday night. Police have been stationed outside of 409 Walker Street since they discovered the body of Depaoli dead inside the home, but they have not released any further details of her death.
An autopsy was conducted on Thursday, and preliminary results showed Depaoli was a victim of homicide. However, specific details of the autopsy will not be released at this time as the investigation is ongoing.
Early Thursday police said they were looking for a blue 2005 Ford Taurus with a Massachusetts registration 88ZA27. The car was registered to Depaoli.
The Berkshire County DA has not released the name of the person arrested in Bennington.
