GLENS FALLS, N.Y. -- The oldest and largest balloon event on the east coast kicks off Thursday night in the beautiful Adirondack Mountains.
The 41st annual Adirondack Balloon Festival will include 100 balloons with this year's special shapes -- the elephant and hummingbird.
Opening ceremonies begin tonight at five at Crandall Park in Glens Falls with 20 balloons taking to the sky. There will also will a simultaneous balloon launch at the Floyd Bennett Memorial Airport in Queensbury.
The "Flight of 100 Balloons" will take place Saturday in Queensbury at 6:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. More than 150,000 people are expected to attend the four day event which wraps up on Sunday
