DA: Man pleads guilty to attempting to entice a minor


TROY, N.Y. – A 42-year-old Troy man has pleaded guilty to one count of Attempted Online Enticement of a Minor.

The Chief United States Court Judge Gary Sharpe in Albany heard Michael Heppelle's guilty plea on Thursday.

Heppelle admitted to calling a person and offering to pay them $500 if they could arrange for Heppelle to have a sexual encounter with a 12-year-old girl. 

The person Heppelle called then contacted authorities.  That is when a sting was set up against Heppelle. 

Heppelle was told that if he was serious about engaging in sexual acts with a minor he could meet her at a pre-determined location in Rensselaer County on October 3, 2012. 

Heppelle arrived to the pre-determined location at the pre-determined time and was arrested by alw enforcement officials. 

Police say he was found in possession of $500, a cell phone, two condoms, and lubricant typically used for sexual intercourse.

The person Heppelle originally contacted was a cooperating witness in this case. 

Heppelle faces a mandatory minimum sentence of at least ten years in State Prison and could be sentenced to the maximum, life in State Prison.

He is currently being detained before his sentencing.
