SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Representatives from the New York State Department of Tax and Finance will explain the new legislation requiring all homeowners receiving a Basic STAR exemption to register with the department at City Council Meeting in Schenectady.
On Monday, September 23 at 7 p.m., after a short presentation Tax Department representatives will be available in City Hall to assist homeowners through the registration process.
The new requirement affects all homeowners who currently receive the Basic STAR exemption. Homeowners who do not register will lose their exemption.
Homeowners applying for STAR for the first time are not affected the new registration procedure.
