SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Big changes coming to Saratoga Springs. The city is moving ahead with plans to build a third fire station in the east side corridor.
Currently there is a station in the heart of the city and on the west side, but new land development and housing has been springing up along the east side for years.
Fire fighters, who also handle the cities EMS calls, have quite a distance to travel when responding to calls in that area. An ideal response time is 5 minutes, currently the east side is averaging almost 9 minutes.
Public Safety Commissioner Christian Mathiesen said "I don't know of a city that has the types of activities that we have so we have more pressure on our fire department and police department.
The city is planning on swapping land with a developer to cover some of the cost.
NEWS10 ABC's Lisa Martone will have more details on the plan tonight at 5.
