SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - Michael Zurlo has declared victory for the Saratoga County Sheriff Republican candidate position in the primary.
In one of the closest races in our area, Zurlo faced off against Jeff Gildersleeve.
The absentee ballot counts were finalized on Wednesday afternoon and the candidates had a 541 vote difference.
Zurlo won with 6,542 votes and Gildersleeve followed close with 6,001.
Zurlo released a statement, "I am thankful for the confidence Republican voters gave me to
lead as their candidate for Saratoga County Sheriff. Voters in this county care
deeply about what their law enforcement officials are going to do to keep their neighborhoods, main streets,
county roads, schools, children and families safe."
Gildersleeve also released a statement shortly after the announcement was made, "I want to thank my
family, friends, and volunteers for their dedication throughout this campaign...As a first time
candidate, I learned a great deal about the electoral process and the amount of
work that goes into running for office. Our team proved that with hard work you could turn what once was impossible,
into a real competition to give the voters a choice."
Zurlo will now go on to run on the Republican ticket in the November 5th general election for a six year term.
