Albany police look to identify milk bottle bandit

ALBANY, N.Y. - An Albany resident is teaming up with police in attempting to identify a milk bottle bandit.

Albany Police say the thief is quietly walking onto people's porches and stealing milk bottles out of the bins. One homeowner, Brian Duffy, says when he noticed his milk bottles were going missing nearly every day, he decided to set up a security camera on his porch and aim it at the milk bin.

Low and behold, Duffy says he captured the crime at his Maplewood Street home on the camera he installed attempting the catch the thief.

The video shows the man get off his bike, sneak up onto Duffy's porch around 7 a.m. and take the empty bottle. Police say the thief is not after the milk; it's likely the $2 deposit that can be collected for each bottle.

Albany Police say they have received two official complaints regarding stolen milk bottles, and they believe there are likely more victims.

"I would love to see him get caught. There are kids here and we want to keep everyone safe," Duffy says.

Police are also trying to identify the alleged thief. Anyone who recognizes the milk bottle bandit is asked to call police.
