Schenectady man arrested after fatal hit and run in Queens


QUEENS, N.Y. -  A Schenectady man has been arrested in connection to a fatal hit and run that happened on Friday night in Queens, NY.

According to NYPD, Vishwanand Subryan, 23, struck a pedestrian at the intersection of 97 Avenue and 117 Street.  The victim, Raj Chohan, 59, was unconscious and unresponsive at the scene when officers and EMS arrived. 

Chohan was taken to Jamaica Hospital where she was pronounced dead. 

Police conducted an investigation which led them to believe Chohan, a grandmother, was walking along parked cars on 117 Street when the car struck her and fled the scene.  The car was heading northbound on 117th Street.

Subryan was apprehended shortly after the investigation without incident.  He has been charged with vehicular Manslaughter, Criminally Negligent Homicide, Leaving the Scene of an Accident and DWI.
