SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – More than 1,200 people are expected to be at the Saratoga Flat Track on Sunday for the Out of the Darkness Walk for R.I.T.A.

This fundraising walk supported the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP).  This organization funds scientific research, local and national prevention programs, and support for those affected by suicide.

Throughout the country this fall more than 300 Out of the Darkness Walks are expected to be held.

Walkers will begin their 3 mile walk at 11a.m. The route will take them across East and Lake Avenues, down Broadway, through Congress Park, and back to the Flat Track entrance.

According to Out of the Darkness, about 1 million Americans make a suicide attempted every year.  More than 38,000 succeed in their attempt.  This is the 4th leading cause of death among adults 18-65 and the 2nd leading cause of death among teens and young adults.
