AMSTERDAM, N.Y. – There was an early morning drug raid in Amsterdam which led to five arrests.

According to Amsterdam Police, two search warrants and five arrest warrants were executed at 6a.m. Friday.  These warrants were signed by Honorable Howard Aison and Lisa Lorman after a two month investigation found drug sales in different areas of the city.

The first search warrant was executed at 183 Church Street.  According to authorities, the first attempt at an arrest was unsuccessful because the man and woman they were searching for had recently moved.  However, both have since been apprehended.

Jean Carlos Arce-Santiago, 26, and Elizabeth Perez, 28, were arrested at 159 Division Street and both were charged with Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance for heroin sales.

The second search warrant was successfully executed at 49 James Street.  Angel Rodriguez-Morales, 28 and Giovania Matias, 38, were both arrested and charged with Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance for heroin sales. Authorities say $1,300 was seized from the James Street location during the search warrant.

The first arrest warrant led police to 31 Carmichael Street where Steven Velasquez, 26, was  taken into custody.  He has been charged with Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance and Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance for selling and possessing cocaine.  According to police, more than ½ ounce of cocaine was seized along with more than $2,000.  Velasquez also had an outstanding bench warrant from Amsterdam City Court for Failure to Appear.

Police arrested Vivian Rivera, 28, of 11 Clinton Street on an arrest warrant.  She has been charged with Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance for cocaine sales and Unlawful Possession of Marijuana.

The third arrest warrant was executed at 92 Union Street where Denis Reyes, 40, was charged with Criminal Sale of a Controlled Substance for Cocaine Sales.

There are two additional arrest warrants pending at this time, according to the Amsterdam Police Department.

The Amsterdam Police Department worked with the New York State Police Community Narcotics Enforcement Team, the Amsterdam Police/Montgomery County Sheriff's Department Regional SWAT Team and the Montgomery County Sheriff's Department during the investigation and execution of warrants.
