CAPITAL REGION, N.Y. – As strong storms passed through the Capital Region Thursday, flooding quickly became a concern.

Flooding in Albany closed Central Avenue at the city line. This closure is having a significant ripple effect and causing large amounts of motor vehicle traffic on Washington Avenue and Western Avenue.

Motorist traveling westbound with destinations outside of the City of Albany should expect delays and consider alternate routes during this closure.

Flooding closed Route 9 from Latham Circle to Rte. 155 in Latham shortly before 3 p.m. until about 6 p.m., and in Cohoes a car was stuck in a flooded parking lot off of 787.

In Niskayuna a tree fell, narrowly missing a home on Dean Street, but damaging it's deck.

"Based on what I can see now there's no damage to the structure. The power lines are down but other than that I can't see what damage is done to the deck because the tree is still here, but the damage considering what it looks like is pretty minimal," said Bill Grasso, the owner of the home.

The Sheriff's dispatch in Schaghticoke said they have multiple reports of trees and wires down, with one reported injury. And witnesses believe lightning struck a power pole, burning it badly. The fire department is on scene monitoring the situation.

Malden street, Route 20, Chatham Street and Fairview in Nassau are all closed due to flooding, according to the Nassau Fire Department. Officials say the center of the village is virtually closed off at this time.
