VALATIE, N.Y. - A tanker truck has rolled over in a roundabout in the Columbia County village of Valatie, spilling 8,000 gallons of home heating oil into the roadway.

The accident happened around noon Thursday at Route 9 and Route 9H near Hannaford Plaza. Currently State Route 9H from County Route 28 to Keegan Road and State Farm Road is closed to all traffic. It is expected to be closed for at least the next 3-4 hours until about 9 p.m.

State Police are monitoring the scene. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

The Ichabod Crane School District is telling parents to expect delays in children's transportation home Thursday afternoon due to the accident. All students are safe and there is no imminent danger involving the situation.

The Superintendent of Schools is at the scene with the HAZMAT Team getting updates as they are available. All afterschool activities are cancelled including the Open House at the Middle School. The school asks that parents please not come to pick up children any earlier than you would on a normal school day.
