Police: Couple arrested, accused of hate crime

SCHODACK, N.Y. – The Schodack Police Department says a couple has been arrested for a hate crime, accused of targeting the victim with respect to the woman's gender.

Police say Michael Cartwright, 46, and Andrea Cartwright, 45, were arrested Wednesday and are facing charges of Aggravated Harassment, Aggravated Harassment as a Hate Crime, Stalking, and Conspiracy.

According to police, both are accused of e-mailing a female victim in her 40's during the month of August, using slang and verbiage against her gender.

The victim was known to Michael Cartwright, according to authorities, because he knew her from her work place a number of years ago.

A search warrant was executed by the Columbia County Sheriff's Department and Schodack Police at the Cartwright's home during which computer equipment was seized.

Michael Cartwright was sent to Rensselaer County Jail in lieu of $2,500 bail.  Andrea Cartwright was released on her own recognizance.

No other information is being released as the District Attorney is working on the case.
