Capital Region remembers 9/11 with moments of silence

TROY, N.Y. - Today is the 12th anniversary of the 9-11 terror attacks.

There will be moments of silence and services all around the Capital Region to mark the somber day.

NEWS10 ABC's Nicol Lally has been in Troy Wednesday at a 9-11 memorial with more on some of the events planned.

A wreath laying ceremony and moment of silence will be held at the memorial on the corner of 112th Street and First Avenue Troy.

Small American flags have been placed around the park as a show of patriotism.

The 9-11 memorial pools in New York City sit within the footprints where the Twin Towers once stood, until 12 years ago, when nearly three thousand people lost their lives when terrorists hijacked four planes.  Two were crashed into the World Trade Center Towers in New York City, one in to the Pentagon and a fourth plane crashed in a field in Pennsylvania.

The images of that day are still chilling to see.

There are not many people you talk to who don't remember precisely where they were and what they were doing on that day.

Thats why there are still events to mark the anniversary.

It's not just in Troy, there will be a moment of silence at Albany City Hall Wednesday morning and an annual event at Christian Brothers Academy.

We have put a complete list of 9-11 events on our website.
